Beaudry golden in Canmore

Whether she has a rifle strapped to her back or not, Sarah Beaudry is tough to beat.

Whether she has a rifle strapped to her back or not, Sarah Beaudry is tough to beat.

Beaudry, a member of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club who specializes in biathlon, zipped to gold at a North American Cup cross-country ski event in Canmore last weekend. Beaudry finished at the front of the pack in the junior women's freestyle sprint races, held Saturday. The next day, she placed sixth in a 10-kilometre classic race.

This season, Beaudry has already claimed two biathlon gold medals. She achieved that feat late last month at a North American Cup gathering.

Caledonia's Arthur Roots was also in action in Canmore. He made it as far as the quarterfinals in his sprint event and finished 30th in his classic race. Roots, like Beaudry, is better-known for his biathlon exploits.

As biathletes, Beaudry and Roots train and compete using the freestyle technique and very rarely use the classic style.
