Garrett Hilton, Darren Hards and James Gordon combined for 10 points as the Prince George Farr Fabricating bantam tier 1 Cougars in the gold-medal game of their home tournament to secure the championship.
The Cougars (5-1) beat the Quesnel Thunder in Sunday's final at Kin 2 by a 4-1 margin as Hilton had the hat trick while Gordon had a goal and two helpers and Hards chipped in with three assists in the tournament final. Hilton also had an assist.
Throughout the tournament, Hilton had seven goals, 14 assists in the tournament, including seven assists in a 13-2 round-robin win over Smithers, while Gordon had nine goals, 12 assists and Hards notched seven goals and 13 helpers.
Prince George opened the tournament Friday with an 8-5 loss to Williams Lake before hammering Smithers 12-2 and Fort St. John 13-2. The Cougars finished the round robin with a 6-3 win over the Thunder. In the semifinal, the Cougars once again beat Fort St. John 9-2 while Quesnel slipped past Williams Lake 3-2 in the other semifinal.
Jacob Sweet and Jamie Ferguson shared net duties for the Cougars throughout the tournament.
The Hards, Gordon and Hilton trio played together last season in the bantam tier 2 league before moving up to the triple-A team. The threesome are among the eldest members on the Cougars as the team has eight first-year players.
Next up for the Cougars is the Burnaby Invitational from Dec. 27 to 29.
