Strange Encounters of the Local Mind: Stage Readings will feature a body of work by local playwrights presented by Nechako Community Theatrics Society Saturday night at Theatre NorthWest.
Five local playwrights will present their plays starting at 7 p.m.
Devon Flynn presents three plays including Neurochemicals Make Up Our Lives, Minty Gobbles and Never Flying With Them Again, The Case of Cindy is created by Alora Bowness, Souls for Sale by James Mills and Maddison Mills and Cheats and Exploits by Jenni Bomford.
"We were trying to get as many people's plays on stage as we could," Chantel Girard of the Nechako Community Theatrics Society said. "It's just a great opportunity, not only for the playwrights, but for our actors because the plays are diverse in so many ways. The plays are dynamic and their characters are all unique unto themselves."
During the evening the audience is invited to go on a journey that will include delving into the mind of an ordinary guy, a twist on a classic fairy tale, what Hell's busiest street corner is really like, video game characters come to life while a weary traveler just tries to get home and there's also a glimpse into the relationship between a grandparent and grandchild.
Flynn said during the pandemic as an actor as well as a playwright he's missed the stage and he's happy to see his play come to life in a stage reading at Theatre NorthWest.
As the other playwrights agreed it's very exciting to have this opportunity James Mills went a step farther.
"In this particular case it's my first time not only working as a director but sharing my work with the public," Mills said.
During the evening all safety protocols will be followed according to pandemic guidelines.
