Mounties in Prince George are investigating after a woman was sent to hospital with critical injuries from a downtown collision.

Cpl. Craig Douglass says at approximately 6:45 p.m. yesterday (Oct. 23), police received a report of a collision involving a car and pedestrian on Patricia Boulevard, just east of Victoria Street.

When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from injuries in the collision with a Honda Civic.

She was taken to the hospital for critical injuries and the driver remained at the scene.

Police spoke to numerous witnesses and collected evidence for most of the evening.

The car was ultimately seized and is being examined.

Douglass adds the pedestrian was wearing all black clothing and was attempting to cross between intersections at the time of the collision.

It was dark outside with heavy rains at the time and speed is not believed to be a factor.

"The Prince George RCMP and our partners have been actively engaged with pedestrians and drivers this month, reminding all road users about pedestrian safety during the darker portion of the year," Douglass says in a release. "Both pedestrians and drivers need to look for each other and exercise caution when using our roads."

The investigation is continuing.
