A woman survived a freezing swim across the Nechako River early Tuesday afternoon but the dog she was trying to rescue remains unaccounted for, Prince George RCMP said.
At about 1:30 p.m., B.C. Ambulance, Prince George Fire Rescue and additional Prince George RCMP were called to the scene, after an officer noticed someone in the water near the Cameron Street Bridge.
The woman was hypothermic and taken to hospital for observation but as of 4 p.m., the dog, a Shepherd-Rottweiler cross had not been found.
The air temperature was about -7 C at the time although the river is low at this time of year.
