Prince George RCMP are on the lookout for a man suspected of attacking a woman while she was walking along a trail in the city.

The suspect is described as Caucasian in his mid-30s and wearing a white top and sunglasses.

Police were called to the hospital on Monday afternoon where the woman told an officer she was walking along a trail in the Edgewood area off North Nechako Road when she was attacked from behind.

"At this time it appears this was a random act without any motive," Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said.

The woman was treated for her injuries and released.

Police issued some safety tips in the wake of the incident:

- Always walk in groups of two or more;

- Always advise someone where you are going and how long you will be;

- Vary your route, don't be predictable;

- Avoid the use of ear/head phones;

- Always run or walk in areas that you are familiar with, preferably non isolated public areas;

- Be sure the area has more than one route so that you don't get cornered;

- Be aware of your surroundings constantly and don't be distracted by cell phones;

- Bring a noise maker such as a whistle.
