Highlights from Prince George’s Senior Men’s Baseball League (PGSBL) from the week ending on Friday (July 26).

Monday, July 22

  • 9 - Prince George Surg Med Midget Knights
  • 4 - JRJ Construction Orioles

Knights pitcher Jacob Ross threw five strikeouts against the O’s, while also scoring a run in the first off an RBI single by Luka Kim.

That was one of the six points they recorded in the opening frame off four hits; they’d go on to score nine runs off 11 hits in the contest.

Cole Waldie struggled on the mound for the Orioles, but made up for it at the dish by leading off with a triple in the first.

Tuesday, July 23

  • 13 - D.O.B Contracting Gladiators
  • 2 - Inland Control and Services Tigers

The Gladiators won their fifth game in a row and it only took four-and-a-half innings.

After retiring the first three batters on defense, the Glads’ offense went to work immediately with five singles and a double, five of which turned into RBI plays.

Despite not earning a strikeout from the bench, the Tigers couldn’t get a ball past the infield or find an open target in the outfield, flying out seven times.

Wednesday, July 24

  • 11 - Inland Control and Services Tigers
  • 4 - Prince George Surg Med Midget Knights

The Tigers bounced back in this game right away with three of their first four batters scoring.

After making it 5-4 with just the seventh inning to go, Inland ran away with the victory by touching home plate six times, including a two-run RBI single from Scott Atherton.

Richard French struggled on the mound for the Knights, walking three batters, allowing five hits, and only recording one strikeout.

Thursday, July 25 (First of two games)

  • 13 - Queensway Auto World Red Sox
  • 3 - D.O.B. Contracting Gladiators

This tilt was settled in five innings as well as the Red Sox mustered a five-run third inning and a seven-run fourth inning.

The team also had a season-high three home runs in a single night; Quinton Astorino put one over the wall on the game’s third pitch, while Curtis Sawchuk and Brandon Hunter went back-to-back in the third on opposite sides of the field.

The win also ended the Gladiators’ win streak.

Thursday, July 25 (Second of two games)

  • 18 - Prince George Surg Med Midget Knights
  • 7 - Inland Control and Services Tigers

The 9 p.m. start didn’t bother the Knights who put on an offensive clinic against the Tigers.

Six runs in the third, three in the fourth, and five in the seventh helped Prince George get back in the win column, including a three-run dinger over the left field wall by Jacob Ross.

Third Baseman Derian Potskin went four-for-five (4/5) at the dish earning four singles.

Friday, July 26

  • 2 - JRJ Construction Orioles
  • 0 - Prince George Surg Med Midget Knights

Orioles pitcher Kalen Kirkpatrick got the complete-game shutout in a game that only needed 90 minutes.

He threw just three strikeouts, while his infield helped him out with several grounders and first-base outs.

The two runs in the contest came in the bottom of the first inning, with Paul Wilson and Jon Bourassa hitting back-to-back RBI singles.
