Highlights from Prince George’s Senior Men’s Baseball League (PGSBL) from the week ending on Friday (July 19).

Monday, July 15

  • 5 - D.O.B Contracting Gladiators
  • 1 - JRJ Construction Orioles

After the Gladiators opened the scoring in the bottom half of the first frame, thanks to a Mike Schwab RBI, they maintained a strong defensive effort.

The two-hitter victory didn’t even need a full seven innings to complete after the designated home team pulled away in the second half of the sixth with four runs.

Despite the losing effort, O’s pitcher Kalen Kirkpatrick through five strikeouts and had no walks.

Tuesday, July 16

  • 4 - Inland Control and Services Tigers
  • 0 - Queensway Auto World Red Sox

Tigers’ Cole Laviolette got the complete-game shut out against the first-place Red Sox, throwing seven strikeouts and allowing just one walk in the contest.

He was backed up by his defense with nine fly-out catches, five from outfielders Mike Stang, Angelo Desantis, and Ryan Hampe.

On the sticks, the Tigers had three doubles, including one off the bat of Chris Clark in the seventh that resulted in an two-run RBI to extend his team’s lead.

Thursday, July 18

  • 7 - Queensway Auto World Red Sox
  • 2 - Prince George Surg Med Midget Knights

The Red Sox bounced back right out of the gate with a Quentin Astorino home-run off the fifth pitch of the game.

From there, the offense got to work scoring five runs off five hits in the fourth inning, including a pair of RBIs from Miles Kazakoff and Tyler Clement.

Pitcher Curtis Sawchuk’s complete game saw him strike out 10 batters off the Knights’ bench, retiring six of the first nine players he faced.

(NOTE: Wednesday and Friday's games were postponed due to inclement weather.)
