A warehouse caught fire in the BCR Industrial Site for reasons the Prince George Fire Department is still trying to figure out.
The building was located on Rock Island Road and alarms sounded for firefighters on Friday night just before 6 p.m. The cause, said Assistant Chief John Heaslip of the Prince George Fire Rescue Service.
"Crews arrived to find thick black smoke and flame coming from the rear of the structure," Heaslip said. "Crews were able to knock the fire down quickly and contain its spread to other areas of the building. There was no one in the building at the time of the fire...The damage to the building was limited to the rear of the structure."
Five fire trucks and 15 firefighters responded to the call, and they were there throughout the night. No firefighters were injured during the incident.
The damage estimate, said Heaslip, could get as high as $100,000.
"The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time," he said. "The fire scene investigation has be turned over to the fire inspection branch of the Prince George Fire Rescue Service."
