Practice makes perfect.
The College of New Caledonia’s sonography program needs volunteer patients for a mock ultrasound clinic at the Prince George campus.
Sonography students will be practicing their ultrasound imaging during the mock exams to take place Monday, May 6 to Thursday, May 9 and Monday, June 3 to Thursday, June 6.
Appointments for those days are available from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
This is not an official ultrasound test, so students cannot give any results or a diagnosis.
Any non-pregnant adult over the age of 19 is welcome to volunteer.
Here's what will happen:
The ultrasound exam uses a small camera, called a transducer, placed on your body to assess internal organs. The transducer sends sound waves into the body. These waves reflect off structures and make an on-screen image.
Cool water-based gel helps the transducer move smoothly and conducts the sound wave.
Ultrasound does not have any radiation and is an easy, non-invasive test.
Exams could include abdomen, heart, kidneys and bladder, carotid arteries, pelvis (uterus and ovaries), or veins of the leg.
Volunteers may have to prepare for some exams by fasting or filling their bladder.
If interested in becoming a volunteer email [email protected] for more information.
