The City of Prince George has extended the nomination period for the annual Volunteer Awards to March 17.

The awards will be presented by Mayor Shari Green and council at the annual Civic Appreciation Dinner on April 26.

The awards recognize exemplary contributions in four categories: recreation and culture, community service, youth and the outstanding volunteer of merit award recognizes a long-serving volunteer who has contributed to multiple organizations or causes.

“According to the most recently published survey, Prince George had the highest volunteer rate in British Columbia at 62 percent," Volunteer PG executive director Jo Nore said in a press release. "We can easily say that we have some of the best volunteers in the province, which is why it is so important that we honour our own."
