An unmarked police vehicle was struck by a motorist alleged to be impaired by alcohol in the Hart on Monday, Aug. 11, according to the RCMP.

In a Thursday, Aug. 14 release, Prince George RCMP said they received a report of a two-vehicle incident at the intersection of Monteray Road and Highway 97 around 1 p.m. on Aug. 11.

After arriving on scene, RCMP traffic services determined that an unmarked police vehicle was hit from behind by a grey pickup truck while waiting at a red light and suspected that the motorist of the truck was under the influence of alcohol.

The driver of the police vehicle had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

Media relations officer Cst. Jenna Moore said the driver of the truck failed a breath test at the scene and two further samples taken after the fact registered at more than three times the legal limit.

“The driver was released from police custody, on an appearance notice, to an individual able to care for the driver,” Moore said.

Witnesses and people with dash camera footage of the intersection from between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 11 are asked to reach out to Prince George RCMP by calling 250-561-3300.
