Members of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union in Prince George will soon have some new digs.
The union is planning to begin construction on a new three-story office in May and expect it will be ready for occupancy in July 2015.
The new building, to be located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Quebec Street, will use the name of the existing facility, the Diane L. Wood Union Centre, to honour former union secretary and longtime Prince George labour activist Diane Wood.
Some of the features to be included in the new brick and glue-lam structure include a high efficiency heat pump system, an emphasis on recycled materials and an energy efficient design.
There are about 2,400 members of the provincial union working in Prince George.
