Unemployment rate in Prince George sees little change during February

The past few months of steep increases in Prince George's unemployment rate has stopped, for now. 

According to February's labour numbers released today (March 6) by Statistics Canada, numbers stayed mostly the same for Canada and here in the city. 

Prince George recorded an unemployment rate of 7.6 per cent last month compared to January, which sat at 7.7. 

Canada also stayed the same, but the unemployment are for February came in at 5.6 per cent, a 0.1 per cent increase from January. 

Provincially, there was a larger increase in the unemployment rate. 

B.C. jumped to five per cent, which is half a percentage point compared to January (4.5 per cent). 

StatsCanada says there were more people working in wholesale and retail trade (+23,000), manufacturing (+16,000), information and culture and recreation (+14,000). 

Declines were noted in professional, scientific-technical services (-15,000) and in accommodation and food services (-13,000). 

Employment increased for youth, while there was little change for the core-aged and older populations.
