The city's unemployment rate declined to 5.8 per cent in October from 6.6 per cent the month before, according to Statistics Canada market survey numbers released Friday.
The number of people holding down jobs rose by 1,000 to 49,000, those unemployed but seeking work dropped by 400 to 3,000 and the total unemployed but not looking for a job went down by 600 to 18,600.
As well, the number of people of working age rose by 700 to 52,100.
In one respect, the picture was also an improvement over October 2012 when the unemployment rate stood at 6.6 per cent.
However, the number of people employed then stood at a peak of 52,400, while 3,700 more were seeking work and 14,700 were not participating. As well, the number of people of working age in Prince George was 56,200.
