The Northern Undergraduate Student Society (NUGSS) is holding a FUNDrive for its food bank as students prepare to return to campus in the fall.

The NUGSS food bank provides supports for all members of the UNBC community in an effort to increase food security on the UNBC campuses.

During non-COVID times, the society maintains a main food bank in its office and four satellite locations at the Prince George campus including one in each of the residence buildings, Neyoh and Keyoh.

NUGSS also works with UNBC’s Regional Campuses in Quesnel, Terrace/Prince Rupert and Fort St. John to support food security efforts at those locations.

The society says it expects increased usage of all food bank locations this fall as the UNBC continues to plan for the return of face-to-face classes in September.

While NUGSS works in partnership with the Prince George Salvation Army’s food service provider program to help stock its food bank locations at the Prince George campus, it is in need of more staples to support students.

NUGSS is collecting supports like gift cards, clothing, shoes and accessories, household textiles, and small household goods such as kitchen appliances, home decorative items, knick-knacks, toys, games and small electronics for its FUNDrive.

The society says it has also set a fundraising goal of $500, and is looking to the community of Prince George for support in meeting, and hopefully exceeding, that goal.

Items can be dropped off at the NUGSS office at the UNBC Prince George campus (room 6-370) during regular business hours, which are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, until May 25.

If anyone wishes to make a donation outside of regular business hours, your items can be left at the Reciprocity Shelf on the third floor of the NUSC building across from the PGPIRG office.
