UHNBC Drummers Group celebrates second anniversary by honouring those in the community

The second anniversary of the UHNBC Drummers Group that have continued to pay tribute to the healthcare workers at the hospital took place Saturday at the Health Unit's parking lot.

On March 26, 2019 a small group of drummers took to the parking lot at the hospital to honour the helpers in our community as well as offering comfort to the patients who could hear the drum beats through the windows in their rooms.

After a time founding member Wesley Mitchell asked another founding member, Ivan Paquette, how long they would continue to drum.

“For 40 days,” Paquette recalled his answer. “It ended up being for 47 days straight.”

And without fail every Monday night after that the group got together, rain or shine, -30 degrees Celsius or in the 35+ heat wave.

Saturday saw the drummers gather to honour all the healthcare workers, first responders, the politicians who have supported them and the photographer, Steven Dubas, who has been with the group from the very beginning.
