The city has closed the trails at Cottonwood Island as a precaution in the face of rising water.

"The trails are not flooded, but the elevated water level has resulted in some puddles and ponding," city hall said in a press release issued Tuesday afternoon.

"Signs and barricades are being put in place to deter foot traffic from the canoe launch until just south of the rail bridge."

The parking lots will remain open.

"Staff will monitor the river level over the coming days and notify media and residents when the trails are reopened," city hall said.
