Heat wave: Environment Canada issues warning for Prince George

Temperatures are expected to hit 30 C Wednesday

A heat warning is in effect for Prince George as temperatures are expected to climb well above seasonal normals this week.

Environment Canada is forecasting a high of 29 C in Prince George on Tuesday, July 29, with a humidex reading making it feel closer to 32 C. The UV index is expected to reach 7 C, or high.

Conditions are expected to remain warm through the week. Wednesday’s high is forecast at 30 C, with a 30 per cent chance of showers during the day and a 60 per cent chance overnight, as clouds roll in and the temperature dips to 13 C.

Thursday will bring sunshine and a high of 29 C, with clear skies continuing into the night and a low of 17. Cloud cover is expected to increase Friday, when the high will reach 24 C and the low will drop to 11.

The weekend forecast calls for mixed skies and cooler conditions. Saturday’s high will be 24 C, with cloudy periods overnight and a low of 10. Sunday brings a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of 21.

The seasonal normal for the region is a high of 23 C and a low of 9 C.

Environment Canada advises residents to monitor local forecasts and take precautions to stay cool, particularly during peak daytime heat.
