A Prince George man is in the custody of RCMP for firearm possession.

According to police, 26-year-old Johnny James Boys was arrested Tuesday evening (June 4) shortly after 8 p.m. after officers found a loaded firearm on his person and five weapons-related charges have been approved by the B.C. Prosecution Service.

This was the result of a string of incidents that began earlier that night when police tried to pull over what they believed to be a suspicious vehicle, but the driver didn’t stop and fled at a ‘high-rate speed’ along 5th Ave. near Tabor Blvd.

RCMP chose not to pursue the vehicle out of concern for public safety, but moments later, they were advised of a man placing bikes and other items out of a pick-up truck and hiding them in a wooded area at a park on Gillett St.

Not far from the park, Boys was seen on a bicycle when he was arrested by Prince George police and discovered he was carrying a loaded firearm.

The truck he was driving was found and the items inside were seized as part of the on-going investigation.

Boys has been charged with the following:

  • Carry a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon without a licence
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • Possession of a firearm for the purpose of transferring it
  • Fail to report found firearm

His past troubles with the law also prohibit him from driving due to a history of police involvement in Prince George, Terrace, Dease Lake, and Alberta.

Boys was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today (June 6)
