A man known to the police and courts is back in custody, this time suspected of lighting a dumpster on fire.
Prince George RCMP said Edward Joseph Brookfield, 36, was arrested after allegedly returning to the scene of the crime and attempting to start another fire.
Police and firefighters were first called to a report of someone setting the fire next to a 1600-block Spruce Street business shortly after midnight on Monday.
The blaze was quickly extinguished and after they had left, a security monitoring company called police to say the suspect had come back.
RCMP said Brookfield was attempting to start another fire when police showed up. He tried to flee but was arrested a short distance away.
Brookfield, who has a criminal record, remains in custody on charges of mischief, obstructing a peace officer and breaching release orders. He also continues to face charges from an alleged December 2021 break and enter.
