A Vancouver man who was sentenced to four years in jail for a stabbing in front of a Prince George community hall has received a break on his sentence.
Sharma Datt Vishnu, 34, will serve 146 fewer days as a result of a B.C. Appeals Court finding this week that credit was not given for the amount of time he had served in custody prior to sentencing in May 2013.
The sentence is in relation to a December 18, 2010 incident at the Columbus Community Centre on Domano Boulevard.
Vishnu was found to have stabbed a man in the back, inflicting a wound 10 centimetres deep that still causes medical issues for the victim to this day.
Prior to the incident, Vishnu, who had been drunk and on cocaine, got into a fight with two men when he had confronted a woman during a social gathering at the hall, the court heard, and then returned with a knife.
