A combination of speed and alcohol were major reasons for a fatal rollover on Ness Lake Road this summer, according to a coroner's report.

The driver and sole occupant of a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze died at the scene near Swan Road during the early morning of June 10. He was found ejected several metres from the car and had sustained multiple blunt-force injuries.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist estimated the car was travelling at 125 to 136 kilometres an hour when it entered a curve and went off the road. The posted speed limit was 80km/h with a cautionary 50 km/h sign in place prior to the curve.

The weather was overcast with rain and it was dark out with no street lighting. But a heavy level of intoxication with alcohol was found in a post-mortem analysis.

"Speed and a heavy level of intoxication with alcohol is a contributing factor," coroner Nola Currie said in the report. "Environmental conditions may have contributed to reduced visibility at the time of the collision."

Currie classified the death as accidental and made no recommendations.

The victim's name was redacted from the report.
