Restored fire truck finds new home at Shelley playground

It was a popular fixture at Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park for years

A retired firetruck that once delighted children at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park has officially found a new home — and a second life — in Shelley.

Dozens of people gathered at Shell-Glen Community Park on Sunday, Aug. 10 for the grand opening of the refurbished truck, which has been transformed into a permanent playground structure.

The event, hosted by the Shell-Glen Improvement Society in partnership with Shell-Glen Fire Rescue, featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a community barbecue, and meet-and-greet opportunities with local firefighters.

Organizers said the project was about more than installing new equipment — it was about preserving a piece of local history.

Food was available by donation, with proceeds going toward future community improvement initiatives.

The firetruck structure is now a permanent fixture at 10640 Glenmary Rd., where it will serve as both a play space and a nostalgic tribute for years to come.
