Single new case of COVID-19 reported in the north

Active coronavirus cases down by 10 per cent from Monday in the Northern Health region

The Northern Health region saw one new case of COVID-19 reported on Tuesday, but the number of active cases in the region dropped by 10 per cent.

The number of active cases in the north fell to 27, according to data released by the B.C. Ministry of Health. The single case in northern B.C. was one of only 33 reported province-wide on Tuesday.

One person was hospitalized with COVID-19 in the Northern Health region, and was listed in critical care, according to information released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.

No new COVID-related deaths were reported anywhere in the province, leaving B.C.’s death toll from the pandemic at 1,760 – including 157 residents of the Northern Health region.

Throughout B.C. the number of active cases was down by nearly three per cent on Tuesday, with 639 active cases remaining. A total of 66 people in the province were hospitalized with COVID, including 14 in critical care.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 148,187 cases of COVID-19 in B.C., of which 145,775 people have recovered. In the Northern Health region there have been a total of 7,804 cases since the start of the pandemic, of which 7,620 people have recovered.

As of Tuesday, 79.1 per cent of eligible British Columbians (those aged 12 and up) have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 46 per cent were fully vaccinated.

A total of 5.8 million doses of vaccine have been administered in B.C., including 262,135 doses in the Northern Health region (162,206 first doses and 99,929 second doses)
