A Prince George man is facing charges following a "dangerous yet bizarre" hit and run north of the city Tuesday morning, Prince George RCMP said.
Just before 7:30 a.m., Prince George RCMP were called to a repot of a service truck sideswiping a tractor trailer unit on Highway 97, soon followed by a second report that sparks were flying off the service vehicle as it headed south towards the city.
RCMP found a Sterling service truck in a ditch near the intersection of Highway 97 and Chestnut Drive. It was missing a tire, which likely caused the sparks, and the driver had fled the scene.
Door-to-door checks eventually led police to a 25-year-old suspect at a Chestnut Drive home about 1 1/4 hours after the initial call.
Both the service truck and the tractor trailer suffered significant damage, RCMP said.
The suspect, who was employed by the company and authorized to use the truck, was charged with driving without due care and attention and failing to remain at the scene of an accident under the Motor Vehicle Act. He was also issued an alcohol-related 24-hour driving suspension.
Police did not provide his name.
