Second homicide victim identified

Autopsies of Hala and Owen Thompson, the first body found in the Blackwater area, show both men died of stab wounds, said Cst. Gary Godwin, RCMP media liaison.

Police discovered Thompson's body on March 17 at a residence on Pelican Lake Road where they also located a 48-year-old female victim who was transported to University Hospital of Northern

B.C. with severe injuries.

Police discovered Hala's body March 18 in a bush area near the residence.

On March 18 Alberta RCMP arrested 36-year-old Michael James Bartley, an Alberta resident, in Paradise Valley. The accused is in custody at the Lloydminster detachment.

Bartley has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder, and will appear in Prince George court in April.

Godwin said the victims, woman and the accused were acquainted with each other.

The Prince George serious crimes unit continues to investigate and will be consulting with Crown Counsel with respect to additional charges.
