An RCMP officer stationed in the central interior will be the subject of a discplinary hearing later this year.

A conduct hearing will be held in Williams Lake on Oct. 24 for Cpl. Corey Eggen for allegedly violating the RCMP's code of conduct.

RCMP declined to release details on the circumstances that have led to the hearing but it will be open to the public.

However, according to court records, Eggen was fined $600 plus a $90 victim surcharge for excessive speeding for conditions under the Motor Vehicle Act. He was issued the penalty in Williams Lake provincial court on Oct. 3, 2014 for a March 5, 2013 incident in Alexis Creek.

Eggen has been an RCMP member for several years and his postings have included being in charge of municipal traffic services with the Prince George RCMP.

Sanctions can range from a written reprimand to up to 10 days forfeiture of pay, demotion or dismissal. Except for dismissal, sanctions are meant to be corrective or remedial.

Adjudication boards are made up of three commissioned officers, one of which being a graduate of a recognized law school.

The subject can subsequently appeal the decision.

- An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Eggen is facing a dismissal hearing. Rather it is an adjudication hearing is part of the old disciplinary system the RCMP had in place before a new system, that includes dismissal hearings, was introduced in November 2014 for alleged violations of the RCMP's code of conduct.
