A Prince George man has been arrested on outstanding warrants after being captured in a ventilation shaft.

Prince George RCMP says today (Oct. 23) at roughly noon, the RCMP Downtown Safety Unit attended a second-floor apartment in the 1400 block-3rd Ave. while attempting to find 26-year-old Johnny James Boys, who was wanted on arrest warrants.

Cpl. Craig Douglass says shortly after officers knocked on the door and announcing 'police', he was seen taking off through an exterior window in the apartment and then onto an adjacent roof.

Officers took off after Boys, who was then found hiding in a ventilation shaft on another roof and was taken into custody.

While he was searched during the arrest, he was found in possession of a large amount of money, cocaine and methamphetamines.

The arrest warrant was issued on Sept. 11 after Boys didn't appear in court to answer to numerous charges that were related to break-and-enter and weapons charges.

The charges were from two investigations that were started in June 2019:

  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Careless handling of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Transferring a weapon while unauthorized
  • Fail to report a found firearm
  • Possess a firearm without a licence
  • Break and enter and commit an indictable offence

Boys will remain in custody overnight before attending court tomorrow (Oct. 24).

Douglass adds further charges are being considered related to the arrest.
