A young Prince George woman has been identified as the victim of the fatal head-on collision near Quesnel on Friday morning.
Leanne Marie Burchill, 20, died at the scene, the B.C. Coroners Service said Monday.
She was the front-seat passenger in a pickup truck that collided with another pickup truck on Highway 97 about 10 kilometres north of Quesnel near the turnoff to 10-Mile Lake at
about 9:15 a.m.
Police have said southbound traffic had come to a stop and formed a lineup while waiting for a tow truck at the scene on an unrelated incident to complete its work.
But the driver of one of the pickups decided to pull into the northbound lane to go around the lineup and ended up in the path of the oncoming vehicle.
Three other people, two of them from the other pickup and the driver of the vehicle Burchill was in, were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
RCMP and the coroner are continuing to investigate the incident.
