A 36-year-old woman has been approved for theft charges after attempting to steal from a police bait vehicle.

Prince George RCMP arrested Virginia Anne Denning this past weekend as she was found inside a decoy parked downtown near the corner of Seventh Avenue and Brunswick Street.

On Saturday (Oct. 19) at around 1 a.m., Downtown Safety Unit members caught the Prince George resident stealing a number of items, including two rifle cases, within seconds of entering the bait vehicle and was attempting to take more a second time when officers arrived.

The BC Prosecution Service has approved a charge of theft under $5,000 for Denning.

She was remanded in custody and is set to appear in Prince George court next Wednesday, Oct. 30.

A police statement reads, "The Prince George RCMP is committed to enforcement and prevention initiatives that combat property crime in our community. Further proactive enforcement action is planned."
