Prince George Spruce Kings avoid déjà vu to win fifth straight meeting with Merritt

Jordan Fairlie prevents completed third-period surge from Merritt

History nearly repeated itself a second consecutive night for the Spruce Kings!

Just like Sunday night (April 18), Prince George witnessed a third-period comeback by their opponents, only this time they were able to hold on for the victory instead of an extra inning.

Andrew Seaman potted his BCHL Chilliwack pod-leading seventh and eighth goals in lifting the red- and white-striped sweaters to a 4-3 win Monday night (April 19), their fifth consecutive against Merritt in the shortened 2020-21 campaign.

He was one of three players with multi-point nights along with Nick Rheaume and Rowan Miller.

Fort St. John's Jordan Fairlie nabbed his third win in four starts between the pipes this year, turning aside 23 of 26 pucks from the Centennials.

The first goal of the night didn't come until there were 23 seconds left in the opening period.

Kolton Cousins potted a rebound off of Merritt goaltender Josh Dias' right pad after Miller tried to deflect Rheaume's shot from the right boards.

But before the 20-minute buzzer, the Cents tied it up 1-1 thanks to Wyatt Marlow's marker.

The Spruce Kings regained the lead at 10:04 but then increased it two-fold within the next three minutes.

Seaman scored the first, then was followed by Rheaume's goal 1:54 later while on a power-play.

The 4-1 lead came at 13:03 thanks to Seaman's second of the contest, a direct shot from the middle of the offensive zone and past Dias' glove side, and stayed the same after 40 minutes.

Merritt began to mount a comeback halfway through the third; they got to within one with five minutes left in regulation.

The Centennials outshot Prince George 13-9 in the final frame, but in the end, Fairlie stood his ground for the 4-3 final.

The Spruce Kings are now at the midway mark of the 20-game pod season, currently with a record of 6-3-0-1 and one point back of the Chiefs.

They'll will get a day's rest before meeting with Chilliwack for a sixth of 10 total meetings on the schedule

Both teams take the ice Wednesday (April 21) at 5 p.m.
