Three is considered a lucky number and on Saturday (April 10), the third time really was the charm!

Aaron Trotter answered the Prince George Spruce Kings getting shut out Friday night (April 9) with one of his own on Saturday (April 10).

Three days after his 20th birthday, the BCHL rookie goaltender recorded the first clean sheet of his junior 'A' hockey career, turning away all 20 shots he faced from Merritt in a 2-0 victory for the Spruce Kings.

It's the third straight win for Prince George in three meetings with the Cents thus far in the 2020-21 pod season.

The Kings have improved to 3-2 on the shortened 20-game campaign, temporarily putting them in a tie at the top of the Chilliwack hub with the host-Chiefs.

Trotter also has the second-best goals-against average in the BCHL at the moment with 1.67.

The Spruce Kings got on the board 5:19 into the match thanks to Andrew Seaman's team-leading fifth goal of the year.

He broke up a pass between two Centennials in his own zone and scurried up the middle, scoring on a breakaway off a backhand shot under the blocker side of Merritt netminder Josh Dias.

Both teams went scoreless through 40 straight minutes, which included the entire second stanza.

Forward Nick Rheaume potted Prince George's 2-0 insurance marker 4:08 into the third period to light his first career BCHL lamp.

Rowan Miller got on the 2020-21 stats sheet for the first time with the lone assist to Rheaume's goal.

Altogether, the Spruce Kings sent 36 pucks to Merritt's net, while their special teams killed off all three man-advantages.

Prince George continues its designated homestand with two contests in four nights against the Chilliwack Chiefs.

Puck drop is set for 5 p.m. for both tomorrow (April 12) and Thursday (April 15).
