Prince George RCMP recently pulled over the driver of a Subaru WRX for going 158 km/h in a 90 km/h zone and stopped a Mustang with a tire so bald its steel belt was showing.
As May is high-risk driving awareness month, the RCMP have been conducting enhanced speed enforcement in selected areas in and around Prince George.
On the morning of May 5 members of the Prince George Traffic Services Unit focused their efforts on Highway 97 in the BCR area.
Within minutes they issued their first ticket to the driver of the Subaru who blew past the unmarked police car.
Police also stopped a white Dodge Charger for traveling 114 km/h in a 70 km/h zone, and a black Ford Mustang after traffic members observed it traveling at 126 km/h in a 70 km/h zone while weaving in and out of traffic.
That’s when traffic members noted that one of the rear tires on the Mustang was so bald the steel belt was clearly visible, with the other tire also being completely bald.
“The RCMP would like to advise the motoring public that May is High-Risk Driving Awareness Month and extra enforcement will occur on local roadways,” states Sgt. Ushock, commander of the Traffic Services Unit.
Drivers faced fines ranging from $196 to $368 and impoundments for seven days for excessive speed.
