CUPW members wave to honking trucks as they strike along Penn Road in front of the mail sorting facility last November. A second strike was averted, perhaps temporarily, Thursday, May 22, 2025.

Canada Post workers, who are in a legal strike position as of the morning of Friday, May 23, will stay on the job for now, their union announced the night before.

The 55,000 members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers will continue to deliver the mail but will refuse all overtime beyond eight hours a day, 40 hours a week per worker.

Postal operations will continue but there may be delays, Canada Post announced.

CUPW went on strike in November but members were ordered back to work in December, with their existing contract extended until May.

Talks between Canada Post and the union have been ongoing.
