After a two-year hiatus, Canada Day celebrations are set to return to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park tomorrow.

The event is set to kick off at 11 a.m. and run through until 9 p.m. however those attending may want to pack an umbrella as Environment Canada is calling for a 70 per cent chance of showers near noon with the risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon.

Despite the possible rain, the day will be packed with activities.

The UHNBC Traditional Drummers will kick off the day at 11 a.m. followed by opening ceremonies at noon.

The days entertainment will include Khast’an Drum Group, Zahari Belly Dancers, South Pacific Dance Group, Mexican Link, Bollywood Dancer, Pow Wow Dancers, The Chris Goodwin Band and more.

This will also be the 49th year Canada Day has been celebrated at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park in Prince George.

Usually, the event is organized by the Prince George Multicultural Heritage Society but due to COVID-19 the society needed some extra help and a group of local business owners and community volunteers stepped up to make the event happen.

This group of individuals includes Dave Mothus of Hell Yeah Prince George, Aimee Cassie of Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, Kyle Sampson of Kyle Sampson Productions Inc., Craig Briere of the Kodiaks Football Club and Prestige Hotels, and Dawna Varley of the Knights of Columbus Society and BC Day in the Park.

“This event is so important, and each of us recognize and appreciate how challenging the past two years have been for so many, especially non-profits and societies like the Multicultural Heritage Society, and we just want to do our part to help them out this year to make sure they regain their contacts and re-engage the community in a positive way,” said Sampson, in a media statement.

The festivities will also feature a kids zone with activities for children, a market, covered seating and a food pavilion.
