Prince George gymnast prairie-bound for Western Canadian Championships

Alia Wilson qualified to represent B.C. after Top Five finish at Abbotsford meet

A Prince George athlete has passed the ‘bar’ exam and will beam with glee while wearing the Team B.C. jacket next month.

Gymnast Alia Wilson has qualified for the 2019 Western Canadian Championships in Saskatchewan after a strong outing at the Twisters Invitational in Abbotsford this past weekend.

The 16-year-old finished fifth overall among Level 10 competitors, the highest rank of Junior Olympic difficulty at the meet, but managed to snag an individual bronze medal in the uneven bars.

She also finished fifth on the balance beam, seventh on the floor, and 10th on the vault.

Wilson was the only member of Prince George Gymnastics to participate in J.O. 10.

Western Canadians take place in Saskatoon near the University of Saskatchewan April 25-27.

Meanwhile, the club picked up three all-around gold medals in Abbotsford across various age groups.

Kaylee Oberg, Kenlee Coleman, and Arianna Vukovic reached the top of the podium in J.O. 7 and J.O. 3 respectively.

The team also won a silver and two bronze, thanks to Aimee Fournier, Ana Davis, and Olivia Wilkin.

Prince George Gymnastics’ next stop on the circuit is the B.C. Compulsory Championships for Junior Olympic athletes, which begins April 5 in Langley.
