Prince George once again displayed its generosity over the holiday season.
The BC Liquor Distribution Branch announced the top three communities today (Jan. 22) that recorded the most sold bears across the province and Prince George landed in the third spot.
The top three finishers are as follows:
- Dawson Creek - 1,961 bears
- Fort St. John - 1,841 bears
- Prince George Pine Centre - 1,230 bears
Coincidentally, the three above stores finished in the same order last year.
The annual program has been in operation since 1989, which supports local charities through Christmas stocking funds, hospitals, police and ambulance services, and other community groups.
From November to December every year, customers can purchase a bear for $11.70 to take home while its twin is donated to a charity.
"There is a friendly competition amongst employees around the province to see which store can sell and donate the most bears," Michael Procopio, executive director for liquor retail services says in a news release.
Overall, more than 23,000 bears were sold across the province for the 2018 holiday season.
This passed the 2017 campaign by over 1,000 bears.
Since 1989, close to 672,000 bears have been donated to shelters, charities, and hospitals.
