The City of Prince George is in the running to be named Canada’s Most Active Community — and win $100,000 — as part of the upcoming ParticipACTION Community Challenge.
The annual, nationwide event encourages fitness and sports initiatives throughout June. The winning community will receive $100,000 to support physical activity and sport-related programs.
To kick off its campaign, the city is hosting an open house at the Prince George Family Y on Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Y will offer free workout classes, including Muscle Fit at 9 a.m., Yoga Fit at 10 a.m., and Zumba at 11 a.m.
All activity recorded during the open house will count toward Prince George’s bid to earn the title of Canada’s Most Active Community.
The city is encouraging residents, businesses and organizations to get involved in the challenge in the following ways:
- Local organizations can register their June physical activity programs, events or initiatives on the ParticipACTION website. Throughout the month, they can track participant numbers to help boost Prince George’s standing. Organizations can sign up at: participaction.com/signup
- Individuals can also pledge to get active by signing up at: participaction.com/individual-pledge
In addition to the $100,000 grand prize, ParticipACTION will award prizes to the most active community in each province and territory, as well as to select organizations.
