Pot seized at road safety check

A seizure of nearly 13 pounds of marijuana were among the catches made when RCMP set up a road safety check on Highway 16 East near Valemount earlier this week.

A seizure of nearly 13 pounds of marijuana were among the catches made when RCMP set up a road safety check on Highway 16 East near Valemount earlier this week.

RCMP also came across six drivers impaired by drugs, one of which was a commercial truck driver stopped at 6:15 a.m.

As well, three alcohol-related 90-day suspensions were issued and six commercial vehicles were taken out of service for mechanical troubles.

Police also issued 115 speeding tickets over the three-day blitz and encountered at least five "excessive" speeders, found to be going at least 40 km/h over the posted speed limit. The offenders were fined and their vehicles were impounded for seven days.
