The Prince George Cougars and Prince George Community Foundation are teaming up to support mental health for first responders in Prince George.

An anonymous donor purchased 2,000 tickets each to the Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 games at CN Centre against the Vancouver Giants, the Cougars and the foundation announced on Monday. Community Heroes (firefighters, paramedics, RCMP, Northern Health employees and teachers) will be able to reserve their free tickets, on a first come, first serve basis by contacting the Prince George Cougars office by Nov. 10.

“Our staff and physicians have been through incredibly challenging times – we are very proud of the work they have done throughout the pandemic,” Northern Health chief operating officer for the Northern Interior Penny Anguish said. “I want to thank the donor who is providing this generous gift to our staff, medical staff and their families to attend these games.”

The first Mega 50/50 Jackpot of the season will be drawn during the Nov. 13 matinee game against the Giants. The prize is a guaranteed $25,000, thanks to sponsor Wood Wheaton SuperCentre. Saturday’s game is sponsored by Coastal GasLink.

Funds raised by the 50/50 draw will go to support mental health initiatives for local first responders. Funds will be contributed to RCMP Victim Services, Fire Fighters Charitable Society and the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

“We are all thrilled to be a part of this campaign highlighting what makes Prince George so special,” Prince George Community Foundation director of development Mindy Stroet said.

“When charities and organizations work together to support such an important cause, all things are possible,” Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation CEO Aimee Cassie added.

Tickets for the Mega 50/50 Jackpot can be purchased online starting today. You must be 19 or older to play.

“Wood Wheaton is committed to supporting community driven initiatives that enhance, enrich and encourage the betterment of our northern communities and the people within who call them home,” Wood Wheaton Supercentre operations manager Don Willimont said.

The Nov. 12 game starts at 6 p.m. and the Nov. 13 game starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online, by phone at 1-888-293-6613 or at the TicketsNorth box office at CN Centre. Tickets start at $10 for children and $18 for adults.

Corporate groups looking to purchase additional tickets for first responders and community heroes to attend the games can contact Kevin Patenaude at 250-561-0783 or by email at [email protected].
