The number of people living in Prince George who were collecting Employment Insurance in November stood at 1,890 according to the latest Statistics Canada report.

The figure represents a 500 person increase from the year before and coincides with a rise in the unemployment rate between those two points in time.

In November 2014, the unemployment rate stood at 4.4 per cent and had risen to 6.5 per cent by November 2015.

Likewise, the number of people working declined from 52,100 to 47,300 and the number of people of working age not seeking employment rose to 21,300 from 16,800 the year before.

The unemployment stats are based on a three-month rolling average and do not say how many are working part-time.
