The Northern Health Authority has launched a lawsuit against the supplier and maintainer of a sprinkler system at a Prince George care home, claiming the companies are responsible for flooding that struck the facility two years ago.

According to a notice of civil claim filed Tuesday in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver, the Parkside care home at 788 Ospika Blvd. suffered damage when a pipe burst on Feb. 11, 2014.

The cause was a "freeze fracture" due to water left in the pipe during a test, Northern Health is alleging. The system's dry pipes were supposed to be free of water unless activated.

SimplexGrinnell, Tyco Integrated Fire and Security Canada, Tyco International of Canada and Allpoints Fire Protection Ltd. are named as defendants.

The defendants have not yet filed a response and the claim has not yet been tested in court.
