Nearly 500 new COVID-19 cases reported in the Northern Health region over weekend

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 499 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region over the weekend.

As of Monday, there were 1,235 active cases in the region. One new COVID-related death was reported in the north over the weekend, bringing the region’s death toll to 288.

As of Monday, 38 people in the region were hospitalized with COVID-19, including 13 in critical care, the B.C. Centre for Disease Control reported.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 26,137 cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region.

As of Monday, 90.2 per cent of eligible British Columbians (aged five and older) have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 84.6 per cent had received at least two doses.

Nearly 10.97 million doses of vaccine have been administered in the province, including 508,133 doses in the Northern Health region.
