The foggy weather last Wednesday is prompting local RCMP to remind drivers to use caution in winter driving conditions.

In less than two hours there were five motor vehicle incidents that Prince George RCMP responded to during the morning of Oct. 20.

Foggy conditions were the lead factor and luckily there were no serious injuries reported.

“We want to remind drivers it is especially important to remember to slow down and give yourself extra time to get to your destination, especially if you are driving outside of our quickly shrinking daylight hours,” Cpl. Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP said. “Pedestrians and cyclists need to remember to increase their visibility by wearing reflective clothing and carrying flashlights or glow sticks when they are using the shoulder or side of a road for travel.”

The Winter Driving Safety Alliance and ICBC also have some reminders for drivers and pedestrians at this time of year:

· Casualty crashes increase fourfold during this time of year in Northern B.C.

· The weather can change rapidly and unpredictably.

· Daytime running lights are dimmer than headlights.

· Taillights do not turn on with your daytime running lights.

· Taillights are an important part of being seen from behind, especially in winter when days are shorter and rain, fog and grey days are common.

· The visual cue of the interior dash lights does not always mean your headlights and tail lights are on.

· Make sure you have properly rated tires if you are traveling the highways.
