Nael and Rose Tohme, the first Syrian refugees to arrive in Prince George, are now Canadian citizens.
The Tohmes and their children arrived in B.C.'s north three years ago after fleeing the 2016 civil war in Syria.
They were sponsored by the Westwood Mennonite Brethren Church.
“I want to extend my sincere congratulations to Nael and Rose Tohme on becoming Canadian citizens,” says Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies in a news release.
“Over the past three years, they have fully embraced everything that our region has to offer and have become active in their church and community, as well as assisting other newcomers to Canada."
"I once again congratulate Nael and Rose, and all those who took part in the citizenship ceremony at Southridge Elementary School in Prince George."
School District No. 57 also congratulated Rosa, as she works as an Educational Assistant in the school district.
Wonderful news! And a great-looking cake! https://t.co/MsbUkoDv2H
