A Metis Day cultural celebration and open house will be held this Saturday at the Fort St. James National Historic Site.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and includes bannock and jam making, hunting skills, chicken races, ice cream making and horseback rides.
Vendors will also be on site, there will be free beef dip at the Old Fort Cafe, performances by musician Rainey Gervais and fish printing with resident artist Clare Singleton.
Established in 1806, it was the second of two fur trade posts west of the Rocky Mountains constructed by the North West Company under the supervision of Simon Fraser and became the centre of the northern fur trade district, known as New Caledonia.
It now displays the largest group of original wooden buildings representing the fur trade in Canada.
