The public is urged to avoid the trails east of the town and Morfee Lake Road where Mackenzie RCMP are searching for an armed man.
RCMP had issued a "shelter in place" alert on Wednesday evening after police were called to Lost Lake Trail where a 39-year-old man was reported to be armed with a rifle and acting strangely.
Shortly after the man disappeared into the extensive trail system, several shots were heard and RCMP are concerned for his well being.
The alert has since been rescinded but residents are asked to avoid the area.
North District RCMP emergency response team, North District RCMP police dog services and RCMP Air Services have been called in to help with the search.
