The last day for advance voting for School District No. 57 (SD57) takes place today.
Advance voting is open to qualified electors of School District No. 57 Prince George Trustee Electoral Area No. 1, until 8 p.m. at the SD57 Office located at 2100 Ferry Ave.
Voters will have to elect two trustees to serve on the SD57 board of education.
General voting day takes place on June 17 and polling stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m at Glenview (7310 Cluff Rd.), Heritage (257 Anderson St.), Malaspina (7900 Malaspina Blvd.) and Pineview (8515 Old Cariboo Hwy.) elementary schools, as well as the Van Bien Training Centre (311 Wilson Cres.).
The by-election will was prompted by the resignation of trustees Betty Bekkering and Gillian Burnett.
There are 10 candidates running for the two positions. During the June 8 public forum Josh Silva announced he will no longer be seeking office; however, his name will still appear on the ballot as mail-in-ballots have already been received advance voting began on June 7.
Mahoney served as a trustee from January to October last year, after winning in a seat in a by-election and then losing it in the Oct. 15 general election.
McCrory and Silva both ran unsuccessfully in the 2022 election.
