Two local politicians are looking to hold on to their positions with the Union of B.C. Municipalities.
Prince George Coun. Murry Krause and Regional District of Fraser-Fort George chair Art Kaehn are up for re-election to the UBCM executive. Krause is aiming for a fifth year as director at large, while Kaehn is hoping to repeat as electoral area representative.
As of now, Kaehn is the only one in the running for his position, which represents roughly 200 regional board directors. Nominations can still be taken from the convention floor on Thursday.
"You've got a very diverse area and population, areas that are extremely remote, extremely rural and some that are very urban. So you could imagine the range of issues that come up," said Kaehn. "It's been a privilege to work with these folks and hopefully I'll have the opportunity to do it for another year."
This year there are nine people running for the the five director-at-large positions, which means Krause will have to make a speech during the convention.
His interest in continuing with the UBCM executive comes from a desire to fulfill both city and personal interests, he said.
"I think it's important that we have representatives on each of the municipal bodies," said Krause.
As a member of the executive, Krause is also heavily involved with the UBCM's work with First Nations relations as well as healthy communities, specifically on the issue of child poverty.
Elections take place Thursday.
